Erin Bernhard is our resident wordsmith. Her responsibilities span from copywriting to social media management to search engine optimization – and her skills don’t stop there. Learn more about what makes Erin tick inside the Legendary Lion office:
How long have you been a part of the team?
I started with Legendary Lion in August 2015.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
I love that I get to spend time learning about different services and then, taking it one step further, figuring out the best way to convey those messages in the voice the client wants to portray.
I also can’t deny how much I love our workplace — we’re empowered to teach each other, learn from one another, and are always able to find ways to communicate better with one another. We hold reciprocating levels of respect for one another’s professional capabilities which, while rare, is crucial to the creation of a place where we all feel comfortable and excited to do what we do best.
What are you doing when you’re not in the Lions’ Den?
When I’m not in the office, I spend a lot of time working in multiple capacities alongside my fiancé. We are well imbued in the Michigan music scene and spend almost all of our (limited) spare time seeing shows, either during the events we help to coordinate or at a myriad of other venues across the country.
I am also the Managing Editor of The Awesome Mitten, a digital lifestyle publication dedicated to showcasing all things awesome in Michigan. I manage a team of three editors and 20 writers, all volunteers, who are as passionate about the Great Lakes State as I am.
Most importantly, I play ‘stepmom’ to the most adorable 2.5-year-old on the planet and can usually be found chasing him around Traverse City in between my other gigs.
What industry skills are you currently honing?
I’m always learning and evolving in a million directions — I’m really excited about developing my design skills as well as creating a content management program for our burgeoning list of clients who need copy for different platforms.
What’s your favorite Spotify discovery?
On one hand, I have the must-have playlist Classic Hip Hop – Mostly 90s and albums from Charles Bradley and Kehlani — on the other, I have JR JR, CHVRCHES, and Grace Mitchell. Then there’s that third hand that includes Gregory Alan Isakov, The Lone Bellow, and Heartless Bastards.
Which LL project have you enjoyed most thus far?
I think I’ll say Michigan Planners, mostly because it gave me the opportunity to research a fairly dry topic area – insurance – and come up with a way to spin it so it’s accessible and interesting for the consumer.
I’ve also really enjoyed working with my teammates to come up with better, more efficient ways to work — both together and with our clients.
Are you a coffee person or a beer person?
Coffee! I really can’t function without at least a cup a day. But, as the Michigan enthusiast that I am, I can’t deny the amazing craft beer that exists both in Traverse City and across the state.
If you could develop any app, what would it do?
Even though iterations of this exist, I want to create the perfect solution to compiling all live music happening in a certain area — from the smallest coffee shop show to the sold-out arena concerts. I want to do this without partnering with bigwigs like Live Nation — which can sometimes be a challenge in the music business.
